Lars Vilks is a Swedish artist who is famous for his controversial drawings of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. In 2007, he created a series of drawings called "The Modoggies," which depicted Muhammad as a dog. These drawings sparked outrage in the Muslim world and resulted in several death threats against Vilks.
In 2010, Vilks was attacked during a lecture at Uppsala University in Sweden by two men who attempted to strangle him. The attackers were sentenced to prison, but Vilks was forced to live under police protection for several years afterward.
Vilks has been a vocal critic of Islam and has spoken out against what he sees as the religion's tendency towards violence and extremism. He has also been a defender of free speech, arguing that artists should be able to express themselves without fear of censorship or retribution.
